What is a network camera?

A network camera is a IP based surveillance application that can transfer its digitized data through a wired or wireless network to be stored to a Network Video Recorder (NVR) as far as the network its installed to will allow.

This can also be powered by Power-over Ethernet (PoE) to save on more cabling costs.

How can a network camera do this?

An IP camera may be called a camera but it is far more than this.

An IP camera has its own IP address to allow network communications.

An IP camera has own built-in software to allow it to perform many functions, such as:

And the more advanced cameras will allow motion detection, alarm inputs, alarm outputs and 2 way audio.

Converting your existing analogue system to Digital

Network Video Server.

If you have already invested in your existing analogue system and want to upgrade to digital then this can be done very easily by simply adding a Network Video Server (NVR) which will give you the benefits of a network and allow storage and viewing anywhere that you allow.

Recording

This will be done by a server which can be stored locally or remotely.

The NVR will be added to this server and here all the data will be stored to allow any access, for the people with access-rights, from anywhere the network allows.
